Advent Calenders

Advent Calender

Advent calenders are made specifically for counting the days of advent. The advent calender started in Germany by some Lutherans who literally began counting down the twenty four days of advent. The advent calenderstoday normally have candy or an ornament for each day. The calenders are normally opened a day at a time until you get to Christmas. That is the end of an advent calendar. A lot of advent calenders are made out of a cardboard that is a few pieces of paper thick. There are tiny wholes punched in the cardboard of the calenders or tiny indents that allow the cardboard to be broken open in a specific pattern. The advent calender can be used several times if the pieces are not edible unless they are replaced.

The Twenty Four Days of Advent

The twenty four days of advent go from the First of December to the twenty fifth of December. These include the first three weeks of December. The advent calendar is meant to celebrate Christmas, the birth of Christ.  Although scientists and historians do not know if this is in fact the actual birth of Jesus, this day has traditionally been used an will continue to be used until further notice.
